Intro to Latin
On-Line for Summer 2020
Teacher: Sherri Madden
6 week course with live sessions on Wednesdays, 1- 2 p.m.
Why study a dead language?
Oh my, just typing the adjective “dead” in relation to Latin was indeed a most lugubrious task for me. Wait – you don’t know the meaning of “lugubrious”? Well, if you took Latin, you would know that the Latin verb lugeo means I mourn. Can you guess the meaning now? Wow! Knowing Latin enables you to figure out the meanings of long, unfamiliar words. That’s only a minor benefit of studying Latin though! Enroll in this course with Magistra Madden and learn all the reasons why Latin is the BEST grounding for your education and an excellent way for gaining wisdom. We will also learn the basics of Latin grammar focusing on the 1st and 2nd declensions and conjugations – that just means nouns and verbs!

A Fulbright Award with the opportunity to study at the American Academy in Rome during the summer of 2006 was a highlight of my career. I am the mother of 5 grown children (all of whom took Latin!) and 3 grandchildren (who will all learn Latin!) in whom I take great delight!
