*New for 2026-2027* The College Board is launching this exciting new AP course, and we are thrilled to offer it to homeschool students. Business plays a vital role in shaping careers, communities, and society at large. As AI reshapes the workplace, skills like creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship are more valuable than ever. This course offers a practical, hands-on introduction to business and finance, building a strong foundation for college, the workforce, and future careers.

AP Business with Personal Finance is an introductory, college-level business and personal finance course. Students explore the business disciplines of entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, accounting, and management through real-world business applications, case studies, and project-based learning. In addition, students learn and apply all the National Standards for Personal Financial Education created by the Council for Economic Education and the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.

Course Description

  • Content – AP Business with Personal Finance includes the following units of study:
    • Businesses, Competition, and New Ideas
    • Marketing
    • Personal Saving and Borrowing
    • Business Finance and Accounting
    • Management and Strategy
    • Personal Goals, Budget, and Investing

Along the way, students learn and practice both the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in business and entrepreneurship.

  • Project-Based Learning – Throughout the course, students apply their learning to an entrepreneurial project, the Business Canvas Project, which provides the opportunity to engage in work-based learning experiences such as product development, customer research, marketing, and preparation of financial documents. The course will culminate with a Financial Advisor Project, in which students will provide financial recommendations to a fictional household. The recommendations will help the fictional household develop strategies to manage its budget and meet financial goals related to post-secondary education, home-buying, and retirement. Furthermore, students will develop and practice decision-making skills through the analysis and discussion of business case studies.
  • Chamber of Commerce Endorsed Credential – Students who earn a qualifying score on the AP Exam and Business Canvas Project will earn a credential signifying their attainment of essential workplace-ready skills valued by employers. The credential supports student progression into multiple postgraduation career and education options.

Who should apply: Any homeschooler in grades 9-12 and willing to work hard is welcome to apply. This will be a rewarding and challenging course for those who are passionate about entrepreneurship, business management, and administration of personal finances. The time commitment should be around 8-10 hours per week on average.

Materials: *TBD* Since this is a brand-new course, curriculum publishers are working on creating materials. One possibility for a textbook is Business with Personal Finance for the AP Course by BFW Publishers. Aside from the main textbook, we will refer to a variety of free online materials, videos, games, case studies, and more.

Tuition: $750 by July 1. $775 after July 1st.

Interactivity

This course is designed to be highly interactive, both among students and between students and instructor. Students will regularly engage with each other in discussions, projects, and simulations.

The core of the course materials and interaction will be asynchronous inside our learning management system (Canvas). Students are expected to check the website daily and participate regularly, but not at any particular time of day. Other than certain optional activities, everything is available around the clock to accommodate different schedules and even students living around the world.

Although a student can succeed and thrive in the course without attending the live meetings, I will hold a 1-hour bimonthly session on Zoom. These sessions are useful for emphasizing points that are important in the AP® curriculum, studying for tests, answering questions, and so forth. This live class will be at 2:00 Eastern time on the first and third Thursday of each month. Attendance is optional and the sessions will be recorded.

Dates: August 31, 2026-mid May. Date of the AP exam TBD.

Instructor Qualifications: I have been teaching with the AP Homeschoolers for many years, and I’m excited about the opportunity to pioneer this course. Aside from AP courses, I have also taught Personal Finance using Dave Ramsey’s high school curriculum many times in person and online. On the practical side, I have been involved in the management of several businesses and non-profit organizations. I am a PHAA graduate, my bachelor’s degree is in Government from Patrick Henry College, and my master's degree is in Business Administration from Regent University. My wife Florina and I have two beautiful daughters, Azrielle (12) and Avianna (9).
