AP Chinese Language and Culture Reviews

AP Chinese course review

This class definitely helped me prepare for the AP Chinese exam. In fact, I pesonally felt like the actual test was easier than the course materials I did for this class, which to me, shows a class that is challenging but also extremely helpful in preparing for the exam. Mrs. Ochs assigned a lot of practice MCQs and FRQs, which I found especially valuable because it allowed me to prepare and know what the real test was going to entail. On average, I only spent a few hours a week for this class (although I do speak Chinese at home), and I felt like there was not much busy work, even though the course was still pretty challenging for me. Mrs. Ochs was very clear in her communication and was very quick to respond to my emails and responses. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone aiming for a high score on the AP Chinese exam, especially if they are a native/heritage speaker.

AP Chinese Language and Culture Course Review

This class really helped me to go from a basic understanding and vocabulary to a more practical understanding of the language and culture, and I feel more confident in my ability to apply those skills beyond the test. I went into the course somewhat dreading taking the exam, but at the end of the year, I felt prepared: I was familiar with the tasks and format of the exam because of the number of practice exams and practice assignments, but most importantly, I think the course helped me improve my Chinese language skills beyond getting a good score. I now know how to write an email in Chinese, have improved my conversational skills, and have a far broader range of vocabulary than what I had before, not to mention a better understanding of Chinese culture and modern life. All these skills apply to far more than just the exam and have already helped me as I move on to using the language for other purposes. I generally put in two hours of work a day in order to keep up with the course, and Mrs. Ochs is a good teacher who offered very helpful feedback on assignments and was accommodating of requests for extensions. I would recommend this class for anyone seeking to take their Chinese language skills from a basic level to practical knowledge of how to apply the skills required for the course both on the exam and in real life.
