A great class if you enjoy literature

Posted by Julia on 06/02/2022 7

I really enjoyed this class! Mrs. Trudeau does a great job helping us break down poems and passages into more manageable sections. I generally spent about 6-8 hours on assignments per week, including the class readings. It varied by how difficult the readings were and if there was an essay due. I was nervous going in because I wasn’t the strongest writer, but now I feel much more confident in my abilities. Anyone who enjoys literature and is up for a little challenge should take this class!

    Mrs. Trudeau's a Good Teacher

It’s an unexpected feature of becoming one of Mrs. Trudeau’s students to find yourself eager to attend lectures and receive new assignments. This class is an irreplaceable experience, and I wouldn’t change anything about it.

In all honesty, I’d recommend this class to anyone who reads this. For the sake of specificity, this course is for those who are genuinely interested in literature, and willing to develop their own personal perspectives through those of timelessly relevant themes and characters. Mrs. Trudeau is attentive and considerate, she expects everything and nothing from her students, and she understands the responsibility that she has for her students’ education.

Over the course of the year, my classmates and I were able to form close friendships through literary analysis and communication encouraged by Mrs. Trudeau, and I know I’m not alone in my gratitude to her for that. In fact, toward the end of our last semester, there was a sense of nostalgia knowing we’d be ending our time together in class. I have a strong feeling we won’t be the last group of Mrs. Trudeau’s to have that.

When it comes to the question of whether or not this class will leave you feeling prepared for the AP exam, I think it’s important to acknowledge that I felt confident in my prospects from the very first lecture. Mrs. Trudeau doesn’t hesitate to train her students to grasp the material, write well, and write efficiently. I’m absolutely certain that if students are looking to do well on the exam, Mrs. Trudeau’s class is a reliable route to take.

In short, Mrs. Trudeau’s a good teacher.

My thanks to her for helping me be a good student.

      Dear Mrs. Trudeau

      Dear Mrs. Trudeau,

Wow! What a heck of a year. First, thank you for being flexible in your class structure, which demonstrates your ability to emphasize for students (especially during the pandemic). Every weekly class session brought comfort and excitement. Throughout the year, I learned the true value of literature through the lens of this class. When previously I did not read for context or even for joy, I now find literature a gift, since I currently acknowledge the beauty of this art form. Whether that came from discussing the modern day relevance of To Kill a Mockingbird or analyzing the bildungsroman in Jane Eyre, this class truly has created a substantial impact on my life. Thank you for being candid with your comments on my essays, allowing me to grow as a writer (while maintaining a professional structure and correct grammar). Every timed essay and assignment has brought richness and purpose, allowing students to be successful on the AP Literature exam. The discussions during class, the welcoming environment, and informational sessions (such as the test-taking and study tips for the End of Course AP Literature Exam) has brought confidence and joy to students. Thank you for bringing encouragement to students through an organized and professional setting. Before taking this class, I did not know if I would be able to manage the rigor of the course; however, the structure of your class has ultimately set up students to succeed if they put in the work to read and analyze. This class, by a long shot, has been my favorite class that I have ever taken throughout my high school years. AP Literature has really been the most Lit class (pun intended): a class that not only allowed me to understand what I am reading but also to help me understand the real world around me.

      Your Student,

      Hagop

THANK YOU to Mrs. Trudeau for an incredible year!!

        This course was wonderful!!

Mrs. Trudeau was an amazing teacher!  Her lectures were very engaging, interesting, and well organized, and she taught us to analyze works from different points of view.  She had wonderful slides that were also really helpful to use when studying for our tests.  She responded quickly to my questions, often getting back to me within the hour, which was extremely helpful!  I really appreciated that she is also a very kind and encouraging teacher who wants to see her students succeed.

The zoom meetings were fantastic and I looked forward to them every week!  Mrs. Trudeau’s lectures were packed with so much great and valuable information, and really made me think deeply about all of the material. One (of many) enjoyable aspects of the class was that the lectures were open to discussion – we, as students, were always welcome to contribute to the discussion in the chat, or even unmute and share our thoughts!  While it was not required, I really enjoyed participating in all the discussions with Mrs. Trudeau and my fellow students.  We also often had activities during the lectures (such as mock trials or debates). Not only were these really fun, but they also helped us to dig further into the themes and characters we were covering.

I really loved all of the books, plays, short stories, and poems we read, and learned a lot from them. Mrs. Trudeau encouraged us to make connections between different books that we had covered, which was a really important skill I learned!  We found similarities and differences between different pieces of literature, and by forming these connections, understand each even more.  There were a lot of different types of assignments, including some creative ones, and they all helped my writing to grow a lot.

This class sometimes required a good amount of time each week (mostly with reading and test prep), but I usually found the workload manageable without too much stress.  I discovered through this class that I have a great love of literary analysis – I got so excited when we could share our thoughts and analyze different pieces of literature!  I know that I have come out of this class as a much stronger, and more confident, writer.  Thank you so much to Mrs. Trudeau for this amazing class!!

I would highly, highly recommend this course to other students!! :-)
